Gents,

Article here: http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=46477

My thoughts immediately go to Coca Cola wanting to enter F1 Big Time a least several years ago, and they are one of these American brands that fit the label. And with Coca Cola, Red Bull would be one the one competitor and sponsor that would not like to share the drinks market attention with Coca Cola. And the team that Coca Cola would team-up with?
There are Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams, as far as I can see.
Lotus is a maybe, Mercedes is more likely, but McLaren is as Iconic as Coca Cola, in terms of F1, that is. So, it'll be "...Jenson in is Coca Cola McLaren MP29 Diet Free F1 car..."

Hmm... what ya'all think?

Ferrari surely.

Can't imagine McLaren fitting Lucozade and Coca cola together very well...

If any company want to invest their marketing dollars in F1 they are highly welcome to me. The commercial naming of the teams is already a fact for a long time and doesn't make me neither stop nor watching nor change my habits. All in all: OK why not - whatever.

Ah yes. Well,Coca Cola's red matches the Ferrari Red color, but would Marlboro agree to "share" the color, or is their commitment perhaps expiring soon?

I agree: the more corporate sponsors, the better.

F1 is undoubtedly a major sport for any new sponsors to want to get involved in and top market brands would obviously want to be linked with top teams.

If we take the soft drinks market as an example then Red Bull is obviously a major player in F1 at the moment but it's quite conceivable for brands such as Coca Cola, or Pepsi, to want to get a share of that market. Naturally, they would look to the likes of Ferrari, or McLaren, for any potential deal.

In fact, it strikes me as rather odd that such brands have not been involved within the sport in previous years.

I would bet that Coke wants to push their Energy Drink Brand "Full Throttle".
Right now "Red Bull" and "Monster" have the front row in this very very lucrative market.
Or maybe Coke wants to push their "Powerade" brand to finally get an upper hand in the
sports drink market against "Gatorade". Second or even third place in any market can't be
an option for any Coke brand. "Full Throttle" would fit pretty good in F1.

Coca-Cola eyes F1 as Vodafone mulls exit

Not that McLaren will be the car to sponsor, but the likeliness has definitely increased Smile

Nice fit and no need to change colour schemes.

Sounds like a win, win situation to me.

Interesting point that GSK could switch Lucozade for any brand they wanted.

There's also not a huge overlap conceptually between Coke and Lucozade.

Well if it's really looking for the best team that can most certainly woop RB's butt - it has to be Ferrari..
It has the colours the size and the brand and will gladly take a big chunk of their money... Laughing Laughing

Bearing in mind McLaren have beaten Ferrari in the constructors the last 3 years...

Would Coca-Cola be wanting a title sponsorship as well? As in, would they be looking to replace the 'Vodafone' with McLaren Mercedes? I don't think Ferrari would want anything that is not strictly related to Ferrari in their name. Coca-Cola Ferrari doesn't sound quite right does it Very Happy

The problem with that is that Coke's branding is fragmented.
In Australia, it's called 'Mother', and another name in Europe which I can't recall right now, so it would be in their interests to go with a more genericly known brand I think.
