Yesterday someone on Mastermind chose the topic "Grand Prix racing 1960 to 1980".
He scored 15. How would you have done?
These were the questions:
| Quote: | 1. Which British car driven by Stirling Moss gained its first Formula 1 victory in Monaco in 1960?
2. Who won a half point in the shortened 1975 Spanish Grand Prix, making her the only woman to score in Formula 1 racing?
3. Which team, formed in 1977, took its name from the initials of its founders, who included Franco Ambrosio, Alan Rees and Jackie Oliver?
4. At the 1979 French Grand Prix, which driver achieved the first Formula 1 win with a turbocharged car?
5. Which circuit, at Saint-Jovite, Quebec, was considered too dangerous and was dropped in 1970?
6. What was the nickname of Wolfgang von Trips, who was poised to win the championship in 1961, but he was killed at Monza?
7. Which team's only Grand Prix victory came in Austria, 1977, with the future World Champion Alan Jones driving?
8. Who was the joint leader with Emerson Fittipaldi going into the final race of the '74 season? He finished outside the points and the Brazilian won the championship.
9. Whom did Lord Hesketh hire as his chief engineer when he founded his Formula 1 team in '73?
10. Which British driver was awarded the George Medal in '73 for saving Clay Regazzoni from his burning car in the South African Grand Prix?
11. Who was promoted from test engineer to driver for Ferrari when John Surtees left mid-way through the '66 season?
12. What was the designation of the Tyrrell six-wheeled car with which Jody Scheckter won the '76 Swedish Grand Prix?
13. Who won his only race on his début in the '61 French Grand Prix?
14. How many times did Graham Hill win the Monaco Grand Prix in the Sixties while driving for BRM?
15. In which '75 Grand Prix did Vittorio Brambilla crash during his victory lap after winning his only Formula 1 race?
16. Who won the '71 Italian Grand Prix by just 0.01 seconds from Ronnie Peterson in the closest-ever Formula 1 finish?
17. Which future World Champion made his début driving a Rob Walker Brabham in his home Grand Prix at Zeltweg in 1964? |
I didn't know 5 and might have scored 12, but I had to think hard for another 3 so I reckon I scored 9 _________________ The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know. |

Had no idea in 4 so didn't even tried to answer those. Eventhough most of the names and stories are familiar, I only got 4 right. _________________ "One minute you're defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly, you find yourself sucking down Darjeeling with... | I also got nine right, which I didn't think was too bad an effort, given that I only started watching the sport in 1986 and my knowledge of things pre that date can be a little sketchy at times. |
