If you feel like I do, that the current qualifying format is a farce and against the spirit of what F1 should be about, then sign the petition at
http://www.petitiononline.com/F1Q/petition.html. You may not think these things work, and maybe it won't...but surely you can spare a few seconds to sign it? It won't hurt you and yet it's the only way we can show our resolve in this issue.
Cheers,

Signed. And folks seem to agree with my desire to see the return to 12 laps. _________________ Give me Liberty, or give me food stamps. |

Hmmm...
I signed it, but I fear it lacks credibility... about 90% of the last 400 signatures are from Russia, with several noticable duplicate entries, and in the first 360 or so signatures a great many have 'line voided' on them...
In any case I see that Bernie is intending to talk to the teams this weekend about a new single session, saturday only qualifying format. |

I'd just put a simple " " here, but wouldn't want to be accused of trying to pad my number of posts... _________________ Give me Liberty, or give me food stamps. |

You know what I do miss the days of unlimited lap qualifying when the cars could just go out and run - I know that's not a goer these days with tyres and engine regs etc. but that doesn't make me miss it any more. Seeing the gaggle of cars leaving the pits with JUST enough time to do an out lap and then a flyer was good fun! And we did of course have two days of proper quali then Friday and Saturday....
One of the reasons for this bizarre qualifying was the "desire" to show the punter in the seats (and on TV) some F1 action mostly throughout the qualifying hour - how often did we see Jordan , Arrows (!) and Minardi queuing to leave the pits at quali start as they were ensured some TV time for sponsors! I can still remember sessions where the cars (exceptions as before) didn't hit the track before at least 30 minutes had gone by and then some of them would only do one or two sessions before they had a time they were happy with.
This two phase quali is even stranger still.
What it really boils down to in lots of ways is that this sport we love is being manipulated for commercial purposes and some of the stranger decisions we are seeing have to be purely motivated by sponsors wanting to see action and therefore exposure - so what's new I guess...... |

For crying out loud. If you don't like the sport or the way things are done, don't watch it. I stand more chance of being hit on the head by a metiorite than this petition stands of making a differance.
I took my own advice and have only watched 5 minutes of F1 racing all season. As soon as I sat down I was totally hooked again. So the cars can't overtake, or quallifying isn't what it used to be. It's F1, the pinnacle of motor racing, and we all will keep watching it for some completely irrational reason, all the time thinking that we could make it better.
So my advise is simple. Try and not watch a single race, or look/listen/see a single bit of F1 news for the rest of the season. I'll bet like me you can't, and as soon as you see an F1 car pulling 20g through a corner it'll be like a cold beer after a long hot day. |
