If you base the "Greatness" on number of races won, no contest - King Richard. Petty has won more combined races then any driver, anywhere, period! (That includes our current WDC) _________________ It's a great great day for a motor race - Sir Jackie Stewart |

And David Pearson won - what - 125? King Richard himself, with his 200 victories in the Winston Cup, once said that if Earnhardt had been around in his time, he "might have won 300." These days, the guys who just keep on winning are so impressive, because the talent pool in NASCAR is so very thick. _________________ Hear Truth. See Truth. Speak Truth. |

Greatness and the 'best' are all subjective terms, no matter how highly the temperature may get raised in a discussion!!
Life is full of so many possibilities, choices and people. As Dr Lawrence said, its the questions that are what fascinates, not necessarily the answers. In this case there isn't an answer. It's a bit more complex, but out of innocent questions, learning can take place. _________________ That which is static and repetitive is boring. That which is dynamic and random is confusing. In between lies art.

Sean: I am the "one" who voted "Other". My vote was for
Mark Donohue. See my post on page one of this subject.
I stand by my vote.

Ah, now I remember!
He certainly belongs in the poll. But, as you may recall from a previous post of mine, I did my best to pare down the contents that I added. Donahue was surely one of the great racers of all time. |
