i don't reallly think that villeneuve can be named as one of the best drivers in the world, but he was a great driver. and as for senna it is just a shame that he wasn't around for more of the 90's Sad

wasn't this topic about who our favourite drivers of the 90's were? It's not about whos the best, but who our favourites are. Had Senna not died, Hill, Villeneuve, Coulthard, and to a lesser extent Schumacher would have been footnotes in the history of F1. It may have happened to Senna to in the 80's had Giles not passed away. JV is a great all round driver, Indy 500 winner, CART title winner, and F1 title winner. Not many can acclaim to that, but that's another debate/topic all together.

Yes i know what the topic is about i created it! I was just merely stating my opinion about JV. I quite like him too i just think that there are some drivers around that are better than him. BUT that is only my opinion!

I agree, there are many other drivers better than JV but JV is a very good driver nonetheless!!

The thing you have to remember is, if Senna hadn't have tragically died, then JV probably wouldn't have won in 97, and therefore not be held in such high regard he is now.

In all proability, MS wouldn't have won too!

No, like Senna, Schumacher is an all-time great.

(Pity is, I think Jacques possesses this level of talent. He just lacks the desire that others have, like Schumacher.)

That's what 5 years at BARf does to a man. Look at Fisi now, Massa is beating him 2-0, but he's not a better driver than Fisi, yet. A drivers motivation can effectively screw up their desire. JV showed that desire in until about midway through 2001 I say. But it all went downhill from there with some really pathetic cars. He was still very motivated in '99 because of the new challenge and in 2000 he only went further, after that it all went downhill, although I feel his accident here in Oz in '01 messed with his head a lot considering how alike it was to his fathers crash, a marshal died as a result and he suffered really bad back injuries. JV won't use this as an excuse, I'm merely speculating.

For most of the 90s my favourite driver was Jean Alesi. I know he had heaps of faults, but he was just such an old-fashioned racer, I couldn't help but love the guy. I was ecstatic when he won in Canada in 95. It's easy to look back now and say that he should have taken the Williams offer when he had the chance, but he belonged in Ferrari. Something about it was special, even if he was never as successful as he could have been.

I can't forget that I was also a big Schumacher fan in 93 and 94.

And I suppose Senna deserves a mention, too.

When Alesi signed for Ferrari, Williams wasnt as good as them. So you can see why Jean plumped for Ferrari. Sadly Jean didnt realise that Williams was to virtually dominate the 90's after that season.
