Fantasy F1 2013 will open for entries on Sunday 10th March.
The game format will remain exactly the same as in previous years, although it is proposed to bring a budget in with each driver and team being awarded a value.
A majority vote will decide whether or not to go down this route, or to stick with the existing format.
Thoughts please. |

No budgets please! Too artificial and too fiddly.
How about "One driver must be from a team other than Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus" and as the season progresses, if some other team 'does a Brawn' then the list can be updated. _________________ The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know. |

My thinking is that the only current problem we have is naturally everybody picks one of the top teams but should one of those drivers not finish a race then any chance of decent points are gone.
With a budget, teams by default would have to contain a lesser name and this would add variety to selections.
Although not keen, I'm happy to go down the route of at least one not in the top four if that is the majority verdict but how would it be determined who the top teams are. |

While I like the format as is, in order to attract more entries, I think thaat you need to tune the format a bit. (Unless a few more drivers/teams get truly competitive).
I would tend towards the budget thingy.
(Alternatively, subtract 10 points for every other person who chooses the same element, driver or team, to spice up the choice of lower entries.) _________________ I'm feeling tyred |

We would use the exact same criteria for picking teams and scoring that we use now but each driver and team would be allocated a monetary value fixed throughout the season, as used on a well known Fantasy F1 site.
The amount available to be spend would make it impossible for teams to be of the nature of Alonso, Button, Raikkonen and Red Bull and so by default this may create more variety with team selections, which I guess is my real aim. |

I'm a believer in 'if it ain't broke...' however, what about a tiered selection process dependent on the current position of the drivers on the points table? It's similar to the suggestion from D-Type but slightly modified.
There would be 3 tiers and you must choose 1 driver from each tier. Say 1 driver from positions 1-5, another from positions 6-13 and the last driver from positions 14-22. That way you would need to choose a driver in one of the smaller teams. e.g Using the finishing positions from Brazil as an example you could select: Kimi (no.3), Perez (no.10) and Petrov (no.19). The constructor choice would still depend on the usual criteria.
The tiers could be based on the drivers finishing position from the previous season or could change depending on their current position.
If the format does change then I'm for keeping it as simple as possible. |

I’m quite keen on the principle of such an idea, as in theory it should produce the desired result that I had in mind in terms of team selections.
However, on balance then I have to agree that the simplicity route is perhaps the better option so unless there is an overwhelming desire to change, I would suggest that the current format is retained.

Simplicity is best for both the participants and TRS too, your the one who manages the system and I wouldn't want you to spent more time than necessary keeping track of various data and permutations. We all appreciate the effort you put into running this competition.
The only other suggestion I can make is that the time the post is made. Because Pitpass is a global site people are going to be on the site at different times of the day (I usually check the site within a couple of hours of getting out of bed each morning, between 7-8 am NZ time ). If the 'entries' post is made at the same time every day the people who are able to access the site at a decent hour are going to benefit more. Of course I'm assuming the post is made at a similar time before each race weekend? |

Whatever the format, it wouldn’t cause any extra work as I already calculate each drivers score for the purposes of a Fantasy F1 competition that I run at home.
The timing of the post is usually relatively similar but yes, this could be mixed up a little bit more than it currently is. |

| The 2013 season will open for entries on Sunday 10th March and contain no changes from the current format. |
