This topic first intention was to know if the Tottenham riots were affecting Pitpass or our esteemed Editor in any way (not been in London ever, I don't know exactly were Pitpass "base" is, I just figure out it's north of Thames)...
But now that the riots are spreading throughout the UK, I'd like to know if they're affecting any british forum member and how are you living it.
Better if I you tell nothing (no news is good news, you use to say) _________________ [slowly trying to return] |

For what it’s worth, the building that got burned out in Tottenham on Saturday used to be the old Co-Op carpet and furniture shop many moons ago.
I used to work about three doors down in Landsdowne Road. On the opposite corner is/was a boarded up pub, the Red Lion. I used to be in there almost every night and some lunch times. I lived at the very end of Lansdowne Road, did for about 18 months. I remember the summer of 74 like it was yesterday, George McRae’s Rock Me Baby on the jukebox.. I even persuaded the landlord (Steve an Orient fan) to put some of my favourites on the jukebox.
Tottenham was never a brilliant area, but it was never as bad as this.
My mate Ted ran a number of carpet shops (Tottenham and Edmonton). He was a proper Romany Gypsy who had settled. On the afternoon the Broadwater riot kicked off a couple of his boys made a delivery to the estate. Parking in the underground car park they noticed that there were supermarket trolleys filled with milk bottles. Later that night they were used as Molotov cocktails.
It didn’t just kick off then, same as it didn’t just kick off last night, it was all planned. Watch for the copycat riots elsewhere.
These people are scum nothing less.
Personally I'd send the troops in, but we don't have any. |

I guess that the Iron Maiden (not Harris, Murray, Dickinson et al... but Margaret, I mean) would have do it...

As an English born - it deeply saddens me to see this mindles bullsh#t tearing the country apart.
I hope that all of my Pitpass English-based friends are safe and well and out of any danger from this rabble. _________________ Movable body panels - welcome to the Wacky Races |

My .2 cents:
They're taking advantage of a social situation to rob and destroy businesses. They're opportunistic cowards who are used to having the world on a plate delivered to their door and are cashing in on a chance to riot/loot en mass and thus lower their risk of getting caught.
They do not have a political message, and if any of the news* coverage has elicited anything approaching a political message it's juvenile, simplistic and sounds like the "screw the world" attitude you get from teenagers. Which they overwhelmingly are.
Wouldn't it make more sense for them to destroy government buildings *if* that's who they're mad at instead of local communities and businesses? Not that I support rioting in any way, it just seems counter-productive to destroy the local businesses that support the community that you live in, but I guess logical connections like that are on a way higher level of thinking than this lot are capable of.
Send the Army in, or their Nans.
*incidentally, any coverage of the real issues surrounding the reasoning behind this debarcle have long since disappeared into constant helicopter shots and reactionary bulls~it from the main news suppliers, mixed in with some appalling "journalism" which seems to be 'find person in street and make them fit your narrative'

Have been avoiding watching any tv coverage precisely because of that. _________________ "One minute you're defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly, you find yourself sucking down Darjeeling with... Marie Antoinette and her little sister." |

It was bound to happen.........and although many thought it would be more 'politicised' than it is.......the fact that it (in theory) surprised our 'cough' leaders just goes to show how infeasible and out to lunch the whole of our 'governing classes' of any so called political persuasion currently are.
Please don't take this the wrong way...I'm not in any way excusing the behaviour that's gone on (which to my mind was mostly opportunist criminality), but there are whole swathes of society (sic) that feel no representation at all and eventually they will blow too.
Being a teenager today is not going to be fun and you approach adulthood realising that if you want an education you will be taking on more than most of their parents ever originally took on as a mortgage including all the government who got free education. (Approximately £50,000 or put another way..........between over £96 a week for 10 years or over £19 a week for 50 years not taking into account any interest).
If you're on a wage that's less than will put you in the 40% tax bracket you will not be able to buy even a run down one bedroom flat in London. Good time to have aspiration shoved down your throat constantly.
Meanwhile at the other end of the age spectrum .... you lose your job and your over 40..see how 'easy' it is to get another one in reality......if your over 50 seriously forget it.... well no you will get two years unpaid work on the workfare programme (no longer apparently called slavery).
And they think raising the pension age is going to solve the pension funding problems.
All at a time when the inequality in England is at an all time high in most peoples living life times and confidence in the 'ethical' behaviour of most of the high profile figures is being found ever so slightly wanting.
No we're not living on a tinder box...of course we're not _________________ it'll all end in tears..........cool! |
