Thanks for reviving this thread. It has to be the hunga-boring-ring!

Surprised so many people say Monaco though. I have been lucky enough to be in Monaco for the last three races there and have loved it. I was lucky enough to be on the chicane at the exit to the tunnel for two years (where much of the action in any Monaco race happens) so that was great. Last year I was in the new monster stand, opposite the new pits. That was not a great place to watch the race but last years Monaco race was exceptional so I did enjoy myself. This year, I am going back to my favourite spot on the chicane on race day, Casino Square on Saturday and the entrance to the tunnel on Thursday. I love it down there. Smile

A1 Ring was disgusting IMO. I mean it was all about 90' turns, and there was one full out rolling bit (turns 4 and 5) but nothing ever went on there. Currently Hokenheim (I liked the old format as like a 'special teams' event) although I do like that little high speed flick on to the long back straightaway.

I quite liked the A1 Ring- even though the track werent up to much, it always seemed to produce some good races, and the scenery was really good also.

Worst track at the moment I would say Indianapolis- they could have done so much better, the Infield section is just shocking.

well, I know 53 European racetracks and there are a few which I don't like:

Magny-Cours
Estoril
Nurburgring
Hockenheim

Why?

It has only had a few races on it, and just two Grands Prix. They can't have found the best camera angles yet and the track hasn't had a chance to reveal its character (if it has any).

Monaco without a doubt is THE WORST track. It is, in my opinion, completely inappropriate to run open wheel cars where there is no run-off area at all.

Second dislike: any track built out of an old airfield. Again, IMHO, tracks shoud have hills and valleys. This helps visibility enormously i.e. Brands HAtch Indy/Club circuit and, it challenges the car more since the front/rear weight ratio changes depending if you are going up, going down or on the flat. From this you may deduce that I'd like to see the British run either at Donnington or Brands (if it were deemed wide enough).

Absolutely no question about this one for me.

Monaco rates as unquestionably the very worst track in modern F1.
I am constantly amazed that rules concerning track width, run off areas, safety barriers and a miriad of other serious safety issues are swept under the carpet at Monaco.
From a spectator perspective I would far rather sit at a circuit where I am likely to benefit from viewing at the least, the entry AND exit of a corner.

From a driver angle, overtaking is virtually impossible and laying down extraordinary laps becomes stupidly dangerous.....on any other circuit if you overcook it you may dip a wheel in the grass....Monaco you hit something, not to mention the potential pileup as happened just this year.

Yes, I know it is historic, I know it is the home of the rich and famous including many of the drivers but it seems to remain only as a token gesture to the past and imho bares little if any relevant to modern day formula one racing.

Hungaroring, overblown go-kart track if ever I saw one!

I thought Sepang seemed a bit stale and soul-less too. I think the same about Rockingham.

A fair amount of people in this thread seem to dislike Monaco as a track so, how come Bernie et al recently said that Monaco was the best loved venue in Formula One?

Best loved according to who? Bernie? ...... who I presume benefits either directly or indirectly from the over inflsted prices of F1 Merchandise there, the adoration of blonde bimbos and general pretetious behaviour of the hideously rich?
Perhaps a little harsh but aside from its historical significance I fail to see what if any relevance Monaco has to modern F1

I love Monaco. And the best drivers join me in this sentiment. It is a rich challenge, and lapping quickly there - and especially winning - is hugely gratifying. Panis and (so far and probably) Trulli have their sole wins there, and I bet they'd rather have it no other way. Plus there's the incredible history. Take Monaco off the schedule - and essentially kill grand prix F1 racing.

Monaco from a TV point of view and Monaco from a spectators point of view is quite different. On TV, I guess you get frustrated and wonder if anyone will ever manage to overtake. But for me, being there, sitting on the chicane, gate crashing the paddock and the team parties, calling the drivers over to your table at the Stars and Bars for an autograph, wandering around their boats, sipping cocktails at Casino Sq, chatting through the events with Martin Brundle and Co at Columbus Hotel - it really can't be beaten.

My least favourite is the Hungaboring. Twisty messy stuff but without the walls of Monaco to make it interesting.

Barcalona is boring, have gone to be early most times with that race

Don't have much of an opinion on the other Tilke tracks, but I like his mods to Hockenheim, though it was a great blat through the forest there was bugger all overtaking. This guise of the track is better than most for that.

Slightly off topic, but it seems one of the definitions of a bad track is that there is little overtaking opportunities. We have seen this year more so than others that it is the overwhelming reliance on aero and not mechanical grip that means cars can't follow closely through fast cormners and then set up a slipstreaming effect to overtake. Are we perhaps being too critical on tracks that don't allow overtaking when in fact it is the car's design that prevents it?
