For me one of the great additions to the BBC for this season is Gary Anderson and his rather effective explanations of the design concepts and changes.
Sadly Sky seems like a bad version of the BBC with some of the humour and professionalism missing to be replaced by a 'glitzy' (sic) dumbing down. Witness the attempt at 'totty'. There are knowledgeable and charismatic women in F1......Georgie Thompson doesn't really appear to be one of them.
Sadly I think we had the best coverage of F1 last season.....such a shame when this is likely to be one of the best seasons. _________________ it'll all end in tears..........cool! |

Well, I doubt she's a qualified and experienced racing engineer, and I expect that Lazenby and Humphries aren't either. It isn't usually the job of the professional sports presenter to provide insight. It is to put the questions to those that can answer them and, well, generally present things.
I agree that her role on the skypad thing doesn't really work, but I think that she's fine as a presenter with Ted on the F1 Show.
On another point, Sky does spread the attention around quite evenly among the teams and drivers, rather than concentrating too much on the British drivers, as some UK TV companies have done in the past. Perhaps they deserve some credit for that. |

Well Humphries doesn't pretend to know about the sport in depth - he does his job of hanging the show together well. Georgie Thompson stands there looking solemnly 'interested' in what Ant Davidson's saying. The idea of a specific 'techie' section where Ant explains design/rule changes etc. is a good one, but he could do it on his own by speaking directly to the audience rather than through an eye-candy proxy. |

I think the Sky coverage is pretty good to be honest.
I watched qualifying on the BBC - and still struggle with DC's made up terms like "overspeeding the entry" and "under-rotating the tyre". |

The 'Skypad' would be much better with just Davidson, as WL says.
But Georgie's behind..... |

But what could Humphries or Lazenby do better if they were standing opposite Ant when he was doing his bit? Nothing except give the cues and nod. Its the same as when Gary Neville is doing the football analysis with his colleague whose name absolutely nobody remembers. "So what about that penalty decision on 60 minutes, Gary?"
I think my point is that whoever does that role is not going to look like they're adding anything, which might leads us to the conclusion that maybe Ant should do it himself - but would that work either? I'm not sure, because he's a driver, not a sports presenter. |

He is now, though. He could easily handle 5 minutes talking the audience through Red Bull's latest exhaust changes. He's handled the (in my layman's view) much more demanding job of radio commentary with aplomb. |

I find it quite funny when she musters all her sincerity to say something like "Ferrari really seem to generate temperature with ease" because it's so obviously from some other person.
Would make a good drinking game. _________________ "With its F1 coverage from 2012 set to play second fiddle, the BBC promises to get fans close to the true experience - of being Mark Webber" #HIGNFY @don_lyall |

Yes, he's good. I was sceptical at first, but he's proved me wrong. Far better than any current or ex driver trying to explain the finer technical aspects for me.
However, I was severely unimpressed with the BBC coverage of this race
For a start, what happened to the promised 90mins of coverage? The time slot was only 80mins and by the time they'd run the opening and closing titles we were left with 76mins, of those 76mins the actual race only occupied about 48mins. With Vettel’s winning time of 95mins, us BBC viewers lost 47mins.
How can that be deemed 'extended highlights'? It was crap, left me feeling extremely unsatisfied. The edits, unlike the previous highlight races, were so obvious, we just kept lurching forward in time in a very un-slick fashion.
Why they can't cut the 12mins pre and 16mins post race waffle and give us the (as promised) 90min program is beyond me. I can get all the waffle that I need from the Forum online afterwards |

Thank goodness, for a while I thought it was just this auld ph*rt dozing off constantly during the transmission. I suspect we were lulled into a false sense of the adequacy of the BBC intentions with the long distance Eastern races which most folk watch in the reruns anyway.
What chance that once we get into the European races that the unextended lowlights will start going out ever later in the evening as "scheduling issues" get in the way of the reported 1730 transmissions?
Bernie has been quoted as saying today that there is no such thing as bad publicity, but with ever emptier stands at the tracksides, empty spaces on the car bodywork as advertisers lose interest, and "new nations" Turkey and Korea bowing to the financial realities of the sport; how long before those looking to take on new races due the due diligence and realise what an absurd investment "opportunity" building new tracks has become?
In centuries to come will all the abandoned Tilkedromes in the middle of nowhere be the Easter Island statues for future archeologists? |

Was quite amusing to see Brundle show up briefly on the post race F1 forum. _________________ Si hoc adfixum in obicle legere potes, et liberaliter educatus et nimis propinquus ades. |
