DRS, KERS, diffusers, flexi wings and other techy gimmicks are wrecking F1.
Time methinks to scrap all this nonsense and get back to a situation where it's the driver that really makes the difference and not how smart the engineer is at "interpreting" the rules.

I would agree with you about DRS, don't know how you could eliminate flexi-wings, am not particularly bothered by diffuers and in favour of KERS. (It took me a while to decide about Kers, but overall, I think that I now like it.)

Other than when almost everyone used Cosworth engines, Hewland gearboxes, and Specialized Mouldings made most of the rest, I don't believe that the driver has been the only deciding factor in F1. Most eras have had 1 or 2 driver/car/team combinations consistently ahead of the pack.
I would prefer to avoid engineers "interpreting" the rules by getting rid of most of them; the rules, that is. Keep a minimum weight, safety constraints, and if you must an upper engine capacity, but that is never going to happen. |

I don't think KERS is a gimmick, neither is it wrecking F1.
DRS could be argued to be both though.
Engineers interpreting the rules have been the norm for a LONG time though and pretending otherwisre would be stupid. It's not part of the game. It IS the game. _________________ Life is.....the gap between Formula 1 Grands Prix |

Short of the aero rules being thrown out and replaced with something along the lines of the front and rear wings will consist of a single element with no end plates then, I think DRS is good.
Personally, what I thought was missing in F1 (besides a US GP of some sort, but that's another story ) was passing and DRS provides that. _________________ A Kiwi living in the USA |

As others have said, F1 has long been about the technology.
There are single-make formulas to watch if we want to see motor-racing that is supposedly about the driver but even there the setup and the engineer can often make the difference. If you want cigar-racing, watch something like Caterhams. If you really want to see the fastest man go to an athletics track.
Having said all that, rule-changes and outlawing innovations are also part of the sport and the current front wings do look fugly. |

I'm reminded of the history of F1 and had to laugh to myself as this may be just what our forefathers said years ago as the technology progressed.
