Hello dear Pitpassers,
I have been away from the forum a lot this year, as I have been extremely busy with an admittedly cool project . Apologies for my absence, but I will be online more now that the aircraft is off the ground!
My job was the aerodynamic design of the bird, and I am happy to say it flies as expected! We will be entering the Green Flight Challenge competition with it.
Cheers,
Gregor _________________ F1 - it's magnanimous! |

Wow! life's funny...
We here missing you while drooling over aviation magazines (myself at least ) and reading every GA flight test published... and I must say that I am highly impressed by the performances of the Pipistrel airplanes (I'm a lover of the Sinus/Virus concept... as well as Flightdesign's airplanes like the CT, sorry )... and now it turns out that you work there!!!! And being Head of Research, no less!
I'm impressed Gregor. All the best for the competition.
The G4 looks simply amazing (And if it looks good, it will surely fly good, they say)
BTW... Any spare Panthera (I long to see it flying) there that you want to get rid of? _________________ [slowly trying to return] |

Thanks all for your kind wishes! We are in final preparations now, trying to get the efficiency of the whole system as high as possible, with minor tweaks and flight path optimisation, we might also try a slightly different prop that I just designed today, to see what works best.
Hey bowman, I did figure out that you might be an aviation enthusiast by your avatar (RIP Alejandro!). I will make an exception and allow you to like the CT, I think they are neat planes indeed ! But if you want to fly fast, Virus SW is where you should go .
I am glad you like the Panthera, I am the lead external shape/aerodynamic designer for that one as well. It is getting some favourable press, which is great to see. The design is finished and we are putting together the first airframe now, we should be flying it sometime next year. I will keep you updated! _________________ F1 - it's magnanimous! |

All I can say is WOW!!
I knew you were some sort of engineering wizz but WOW!!
I had a look at the pipistrel web site, most impressive. It's always nice to put a face to a name (not sure about the striped jersey though ) _________________ Movable body panels - welcome to the Wacky Races |

I thought I might get more time to post on the forum in the previous weeks, but the flight testing and the actual competition took even more time than anything before!
Anyway, it is now all over and WE WON!. I am so proud of all the guys and girls I worked with on this project, and we won it in style! The comments we got from the officials was that we all functioned as good as a NASCAR team, to which I could only retort that we are much more like an F1 one, being from Europe and all . _________________ F1 - it's magnanimous! |

I'm more than happy for you, Gregor! Congratulations! You really reserved it.
Sorry for not coming to congratulate before —some life changes are keeping me quite busy, but it's temporary—. I'm willing to read and investigate everything about this great achievement.
You guys are great! _________________ [slowly trying to return] |

Okay, so I lied ... just as I thought things would normalize, we went into full crunch mode on another project, namely this beauty:
http://www.panthera-aircraft.com/
Hopefully now I can again find the time to get back into the friendly banter so characteristic of Pitpass.
However, if I go quiet again, you will know we got another crazy project to finish .
Cheers,
