It's not unusual for someone in any sport to not get back their old mojo after an injury. After all, Massa was only a whisker away from being WC, and few doubt the ability of former WCs.
Unfortunately, he does look off-the-pace now though. |

Sadly it looks like Massa's heart isn't really in it 100% any more and looking at his body language and demeanour in the drivers' parade last Sunday, he gives the impression of just going through the motions (to the extent that such a thing could actually be possible in F1). Which is a great shame IMO as he's had flashes of excellence over the years (2008 being the obvious example) and by all accounts seems to be a decent chap (recent comments about Hamilton notwithstanding).
It can't have been easy being the (assumed) number 2 to Schumi, Kimi and now Alonso, although I'm sure the paycheck helps. I for one would be pleased to see him pick himself up for the remainder of this season, patch things up with Hamilton (or at least for someone to get them together and tell them to stop being daft and to avoid any more silly incidents), then get his head down and concentrate on driving to his absolute best. |

Would be interesting to see how he went if he left Ferrari but got another F1 drive. Is it a post-accident mojo-loss or is it a "can't deal with Fernando and/or Ferrari politics" problem. _________________ Life is.....the gap between Formula 1 Grands Prix |

He's doing well in qualifying but his 98 points to Alonsos 227 is OK but not good enough - straight up. _________________ "With its F1 coverage from 2012 set to play second fiddle, the BBC promises to get fans close to the true experience - of being Mark Webber" #HIGNFY @don_lyall |

Nowhere near good enough.
Whatever they're paying Smedley- it's not enough, he's practically driving the car for him, and the other 23 drivers managed to avoid the orange kerbs well enough..
The penalty was slightly on the harsh side in my opinion, Hamilton wasn't far enough alongside, but Massa left no room whatsoever after checking his mirrors more than once.. |

| If Hulkenberg goes to FI's race seat, what chance Sutil going to Ferrari and Massa getting short shrift? |

Slim, I would have thought.
Read into it what you will but Anthony Hamilton was deep in conversation with Adam Parr before the TV coverage interrupted them.

Raikkonen and Hamilton at Williams next year, what an amazing team that would (will) be. |

| Sutil did visit the Williams factory ahead of SIngapore, yet is openly pleading with Force India for his drive next year. Meanwhile Rubens, who was doing something similar a few weeks ago, has shut up. |

| There was a time when Massa was able to put the Ferrari on pole and, on race day, pull away and never look back (he probably would have done better than Webber in the RB this year). Alas, Ferrari haven't had a top car since 2008 and this has just proved that Felipe is a #2 driver (and, judging by his performance this year, not a very good one). I'm guessing Ferrari will keep him there until they need to make room for Alonso's replacement (Perez?) |

Even in 2006/2007/2008 Ferrari peaked and troughed.
I would like to hear Alonso's candid view of Ferrari at the moment. Early into 2011 he gave the impression to my eyes of "Formula one dominance ebbs and flows; this too shall pass". But Ferrari haven't really moved in 2011 after what looked a textbook winter. They haven't finished above third in the constructors since 2008, and one can't just assume that Ferrari will return to a top car. If RBR didn't exist, Ferrari would have still been mullered by Mclaren in 2010 and 2011.
McLaren on the other hand have made clear inroads into RBR compared with 2010...it's just that Vettel has made inroads of his own!

'Tis a sad day that Williams are essentially the bogey prize and wooden spoon of driving in F1 short of the bottom three. I feel for Sutil because I think he's being passed over with little justification - he's done a fine job, but Hulkenberg is younger and sexier as a driver prospect. DC once put it well that F1 has far too much emphasis on "potential" rather than "results". Can you put "potential" down quantitatively? No. _________________ "With its F1 coverage from 2012 set to play second fiddle, the BBC promises to get fans close to the true experience - of being Mark Webber" #HIGNFY @don_lyall |
