What are those F1 moments that will always stay in your memory? Not necessarily the great races, but things that mean something to you.

Me, I’ll always remember the 1997 Hungarian GP (which is where I took my avatar pic). It was my first race abroad and the atmosphere was fantastic - loads of colour, huge crowds (especially lots of Mika-loving Finns), fans getting a free view of the race from home-made tree-houses outside the circuit...

I was a big fan of Damon Hill who that year was a bit of a laughing stock because, after winning the title in ’96, he’d decided to drive for Arrows (it seemed like a good idea at the time). He’d had a pretty lousy season but in Hungary he was brilliant. He qualified third, pulled off a stunning overtaking move on Michael on lap 11 and was all set to win until, with a couple of laps to go, a cheap little component failed and he could barely stagger round to the flag. Villeneuve won the race but Damon (who was second) got the biggest cheer on the podium, and the crowd mobbed the Arrows garage afterwards. As we made our way out of the circuit I was embraced by a huge Finn who, despite Mika H not having finished and Mika S being 13th, was really happy. “What do you think of Damon then?” he said. “Brilliant!” I replied. “More than that - the best!” he replied. Naturally, I had to agree. Very Happy

The first race I ever watched, Brazil 1997. My uncle is an on/off fan and he had it on at my house. The thing is, the only part i remember of it was a shot of Frentzen in a tankslapper on the last corner, as I was only 9 at the time and didn't really care for F1, but it sparked something, and now I never miss it!

JV winning the title with that move in'97. JV on pole at melb in '96 then in'97 by over over 1.5 secs. JV's season in 2000, Senna winning the title in 88, Senna's season in '93, just brilliant, and JV walking away from his BAR at USA last year, just a sad reminder of how everything has gone wrong.

Best moments for me was when Mika won his '99 title with that fantastic start and dominant race in Japan, and secondly his pass on Michael at Spa in 2000.
Interestingly Michael didn't learn anything from Mika's move (ie protect the inside when you're being hunted) and so succumbed to DC in a similar move with a Minardi in the middle at Interlagos in '01.

JPM going round the outside of Michael Schumacher at the Nurburgiring and Schumacher ending up in the gravel and in need of a change of underwear because he didn't know what happened. Magical stuff from a great driver

i would have to say every time juan pablo montoya gets on the podium and therefore into the press conference. When JPM is at the press conference he livens up what used to be a boring part of the tv coverage. he lights up the conference because he speaks his mind.

Is it a coincidence that i totally share your views??? Cool Mr. Green

Just to add... Senna's wins in Interlagos '91, Monaco '92 and JV's first win in Nurburgring '96!!

great battle between Giles and Arnoux. Another classic of Giles has to be Jarama '81. Not a classic in terms of racing, but the manner in which Giles held off a train of cars in a much inferior car proved his class.

Just a guess here, icewoman, but your favourite driver is Hakkinen right? Wink

Too true, what a move, was it Diniz in the middle, I would give my left arm to have been him in the middle of that!
