| A well-known name in Oz, Frank Gardner has passed away. He was 78. A limited stint in F1 back in the 60s and other open-wheel series and sports cars, but a much more successful career in touring cars in Britain and Australia. A memorable character. |

Sad loss - rest well Frank.
I best remember him from his days managing the JPS sponsored BMW touring cars in the 80's. _________________ Movable body panels - welcome to the Wacky Races |

Many years ago I did race rescue in the UK. Unfortunately (?) I wasn't at Siverstone for the 1973 GP weekend which had Brodie + Matthews + Booth. After Dave B had been cut out of the black escort (that's another story) and put in the ambulance the quickest way of getting him to the medical centre was on the racing line under white flags (the race had not been stopped). After a few corners the ambulance driver realised that he was no longer being passed and, checking his mirrors saw that Gardner had his arm out of the window and was holding the pack to allow the ambulance an easier drive.
A great man and a great driver. _________________ "Why is everyone else so slow?" - JC |
