Definately a stunt. The 'real' Stig is shorter than MS. He was Stigging while Schumi was racing.

My guess has always (since Stig changed 3-4 years ago) been Johnny Herbert. I came up with this theory because - You never see Stig walk, they cart him round on a dolly. After Herberts F3000 accident in 1988 he has had a limp that makes his walking gait rather unique, hence as Stig he is not allowed to walk on camera - it would give the game away.

It does seem a little convenient. Now that you mention it I have never seen the Stig walk.

Stunt alright! Can't Imagine Ferrari or Mercedes / Mclaren for that matter allowing Schumi to drive either one's road cars, Especially if one car was better than the other! He would have had and probably still does in some Contract with Ferrari of what is acceptable and what is not, Re: his leisure activities and cars he is allowed to be seen in ETC.

I don't watch the programme, however, if they say Michael is The Stig then he's The Stig.

After all, it's not as though the BBC has a reputation for dishonesty, it would never doctor quotes, fabricate stories or fix competitions using employees as pretend entrants in competitions.

It is a beacon of truth and integrity.

It's what they do.

I also thought it was going to be Herbert for some random reason, but as a few of you have suggested earlier, I think the stig is not one person alone. I do think that however Schumi was the stig for the lap of the Ferrari FXX, explains the different lines taken than the Enzo noticably.

It's said to be Herbert because we never see Stig walk and Herbert has quite a noticeable limp from an old F3000 injury, so it's still a possibility.

It was clearly a stunt, from the intro to the advertising for Bacardi (in which, incidentally to Speed Freak's point, he was in a Maserati) and the ending was just saying 'we're having a laugh here.' Still, excellent episode and good fun.

I've seen him walk on numerous episodes

Me too. The episode when he drove to Scotland for one and also when he was on the tube going to City airport.

I've yet to see any theory that discounts the Ben Collins one. Plus Collins is employed by the show as a high speed driver. He was driving the Mercedes convertible when the parachutist landed in the back (but as himself) and also was named on the crash report from Hamster's crash as being a driving consultant for Top Gear.

I did hear that it was Kovalainen who drove the Renault R24 though it would make as much sense if it was Franck Montagny.

A snow mobile expert performed the ski jump trick and it makes sense for Schumacher to have done the FXX lap as he helped develop the car and there are only 30 in existence.

I asked Martin Donnelly and he said did it was Ben Collins. Franck Montagny was the R24 driver as well.

At least you didn't ask Alan Donnelly. He would have said denied the very existence of the Stig and then tried to sell you some Manor GP shares.

Yes shame he had to go and spoil the fun just so he'd be able to actually get someone to buy his autobiography. Rolling Eyes
He most certainly would have been being well compensated by the BBC for playing the role of The Stig so sounds like just money grabbing to me.

was being cynical.

I think it's an open secret that it was Collins.
