|
|
I am an xbox 360 owner who is tired of playing f1 2001. I crave something new (without buying a PS3). I have done some reading and found out that Sony's F1 license has expired. Does anyone have any news (or theories) regarding the future of F1 gaming? Is it possible that microsoft will be interested since they are the ECU supplier (for next year)? If EA were to nab the license would they bother to release it to the US (or north america)? Is the 360 like playstation in that certain games only work in certain areas? _________________ "My Maserati goes 185. I lost my license, now I dont drive." |

The current Playstation is region free but i believe the 360 is not. I havent been able to find any news about the license being picked up by anyone.
And i would agree, the latest F1 game is quite good but the the wet weather races arent as challenging as they were with 05. |

Hey Flyer, I got a PS3, just to play F1 Championship Edition. Whilst it's fanastic it always frustrates me that the seasons are always a year behind and they drop circuits not in use that season so this year I couldn't try out Spa just before the race! It's sad I know, but I like to practice each circuit a bit before each race weekend.. It makes you really appreciate in car camera shots in the race and quali TV coverage!
Has anyone heard when the latest version for the 2007 season is due.. ?I'm hoping if there's a new F1 licencing deal it stays with the PS3 (for purely selfish reasons!) and they get to bring the games out in the same year as the championship covered.. i.e 2008 version coming out this January. I did hear a whisper that was in the offing but I've not heard much since _________________ Just a hopelessly addicted F1 fan... |

Not much you can do about that. I would suggest if you want to race current F1 and tracks, then join F1RST3.com and run Rfactor on your PC. I race in a league there all season long..... _________________ Felipe Massa - 2008 World Champion |

Thanks for that Flyer, I'm downloading the rFactor demo version as I type..
Do I need to install that First3 Client Software too? Not quite sure how the two interact.. Is it easy enough to set up?? _________________ Just a hopelessly addicted F1 fan... |

Yess download the F1RST3 client and then set up your profile and join a room with current mods already. Right now the site is racing PCC07 and CCWS. Download those 2 mods from Rfactolcentral.com and then when you join the rooms on F1RST3 the track will auto download to your location directory. _________________ Felipe Massa - 2008 World Champion |

Yes... I'm also from the years when GP2 was a racing game and not a racing series. Still have the original copy on my old stuff... _________________ Don't do to anybody any thing you don't want to be done at you. |

I've still got 10 year old computer at home with Windows 98 and Grand Prix Legends loaded onto it, attached to a high quality steering wheel and pedal set. Despite the fact that I haven't played it in probably five years I just can't turn loose of it emotionally. The story I'm telling myself right now is that I'm going to teach my son to drive on it. He's almost three right now, so you can see the extent of my attachment. |

The sad and unfortunate fact is that F1 games/simulations are at the bottom of the money earning scale, the cost of development and acquiring the official license (which btw is never exclusive to anyone) make for an extremely risky proposition. On the other hand, if you could count on high sales in the US it would be a different story.
We've seen publishers such as EA, Atari and Sony producing official F1 titles but all have eventually dropped it due to cost vs profit. There was some speculation after it was dropped by both EA and Atari that nobody would pursue the license and therefore eventually force the price down and make it more viable to future developers, but this wasn't to happen as Sony jumped in and announced they'd secured an "exclusive" deal.
As for Microsoft developing an F1 title - I would love to see this happen (providing they give it to the right developer ), but I think its a safe bet they won't.
Its now public knowledge that Sony aren't making another F1 title, and whether we'll see another official F1 title on ANY platform is anyone's guess... I personally don't think we will unless the cost of the license is lowered considerably. |

As a PC gamer i lament the end of Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix Series, Bernie is just getting to greedy nowadays. As a fan i love 'driving' around the circuits i see on tv and seeing if i can get a back marker team to win a race.
It would be nice if a develepor like Codemasters could pick up the licence as they have proven they can do good driving sims and are capable of releasing games on all platforms not just one or two |

Without the intention of getting into a debate, there are quite a number of developers I would put ahead of Codemasters - meaning those who would/could do justice to the sport, especially in regard to accuracy... if you've ever made comparisons with Codies tracks to their real-life counterparts you'll know exactly what I mean
I agree 100% on the Crammond sims though... they were the best F1 sims ever IMO. |

While it's not solely an F1 sim, the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue does has a Ferrari F2007. It looks incredible and can be driven on the Suzuka circuit. Since the Prologue is more of a glorified demo there are only 5 tracks or so, but once the real full version comes out it should be loaded. In the Prologue main screen it tells you the weather at different cities around the world. I'm made to assume that these cities are where the various tracks are located in the full game.
Catalunya
Jerez
Brands Hatch
Spa
Suzuka
Fuji
Monza
Imola
Nurburgring
Le Mans
just to name some of the ones I've seen. The game has Rnault, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, and Honda. While the Ferrari is the only F1 car that I've seen so far, it makes me wonder if any others will be included. I don't know what the liscenses are, but it can make you hope... |
