I didn't get to last year's race - how did the new by-pass help traffic congestion?

I'm aiming to leave Surrey by 6am to get to the track for first practice (9am?). It's usually a 1hr 40 minute run to the A43 turn off. Will the by-pass enable me to do it or will I have to leave earlier?

I didn't go, but I heard first hand that while things were better they were still not good.

If I were you I would give yourself at least 4.5 hours as that allows for any disasters like huge accidents, roads blocked etc. If you have no problems then you'll be really early, but better that than miss the practice through being stuck in traffic.

What day are you talking about?. There's no F1 practice on Sunday. Althoug I live in Berkshire and on a normal day it's a 65 minute run to Silverstone, I stay locally with a friend for the GP. But I have to say that since the bypass was built and the new car parks, the traffic situation has been transformed. I would think you'd be OK with your schedule - but no guarantees.

BTW - with careful planning - the only year I had any problems was the infamous April wet year (when was it - 4 or 5 years ago) and even then I managed OK

The by-pass is closed to non-race traffic this year so that should help a bit.
