I stumbled upon this idea while posting in the games section....
What do you think is the strangest / most bizarre GP in history and why?
For me, Indy 2005 tops the list for obvious reasons, followed by the German and British GP that had madman protestors on the circuit during the race.
But I'm sure you all can think of other examples. I'd be intrigued to hear some of them.
Try to exclude tragic GPs though, for example, Imola 1994 was just sad, not bizarre as such. That's not what I'm aiming for here. _________________ Red Bull - Gives you Championships. |

Indy 2005, of course...
...and Monaco parking at 2006 was quite bizarre as well!

Hungary 2006 ... The first wet race in a LONG time. Qualifying -dodgy driver behaviour from Alonso and equally dodgy penalties.
A startingly brilliant qualifying performance from Schumacher - who from memory broke the lap record before the 2s penalty was applied.
Tyres obviously played such a significant part in car peformance. We saw some brilliant driving from Schumacher and Alonso. And some questionable performance from the Renault pitcrew.
And the championship was turned upside down with the top two contenders not finishing after it looked a certainty Michael would finish at least second after Alonso had retired.
It was a race that had everything in it ... but it was bizarre in the extreme. |

Yes, I remember watching that race and being absolutely gutted when the drive through penalty was announced. It took me a while to understand how he had won the race! Stunningly brilliant strategy from Brawn ... yet again! |

| Ther 1926 French GP at Miramas was pretty unusual. Only three cars started the 100 lap, 500 Km race. One car broke down after 45 laps. Fortunately the other two managed to keep going but there were 15 laps or 37 minutes between them at the finish. Watching grass grow might have been more interesting. |

Monaco 1982 - the race everybody tried to lose.
The details are well enough documented elsewhere, but from memory it went something like this:
Prost led comfortably before, with only a handful of laps left, he destroyed the Renault against the walls between the Chicane and Tabac. (Was it perhaps starting to drizzle?)
Patrese spun his Brabham and stalled it on a kerb.
Pironi ran out of fuel.
Derek Daly's gearbox called it quits.
Patrese, having been push-started, was left as the only man on the lead lap and took the win after a flurry of lead changes that left us all as confused as dear old Murray. _________________ When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. - HST |

What was bizarre about Melbourne 2006? It may be a dumb question to some, but I honestly don't know why. _________________ The secret of success is to do common things uncommonly well. |
