McLaren dismisses Hamilton to Mercedes talk

05/09/2012

Not for the first time this week, the words 'Hamilton', 'McLaren' and 'Twitter' find themselves uncomfortably rubbing shoulders.

This time however, it has nothing to do with the 27-year-old driver and his itchy thumbs rather a claim that he is to join Mercedes for 2013.

The source of the claim is former team boss turned TV pundit Eddie Jordan, and while the thought of Hamilton vacating McLaren for Mercedes is interesting it is the Twitter reaction to 'EJ' that is entertaining onlookers.

Most users are more incredulous that the BBC describes Jordan as its "Formula 1 Chief Analyst" than the possibility of Hamilton leaving the legendary Woking outfit for Brackley.

On the social media site, comments such as "a story that involves 'Eddie Jordan understands' has got some problems from the get-go" and "investigative journalist Eddie Jordan says" being indicative of the general reaction to the Irishman's claim.

When contacted by Pitpass, a McLaren spokesman said: "We have been told by Lewis Hamilton's management team that the story is untrue."
