Newey to stay with McLaren

NEWS STORY

Although it has yet to be officially confirmed by McLaren, designer Adrian Newey has revealed that he will remain with the Woking team for a further year, despite having previously said that he wanted time out from F1.

"I would have liked to take a rest," said the Englishman, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. "But for the moment this can wait. I will be at McLaren also in 2006."

After making his F1 debut with the Fittipaldi team in 1980, Newey moved to March, where he designed Sportscars, Indy cars and eventually F1 cars. In 1990 he joined Williams, which dominated the sport for several years, before joining McLaren in 1997.

Although the last couple of seasons have seen the Woking team enjoy mixed fortunes, in 2005 the former champions look to be (finally) on their way back, having taken four wins this season.

The 46-year-old has previously said that there are many other projects he would like to get involved in, including the design of racing yachts. McLaren will no doubt be delighted that he has opted to remain in F1 for another season.
