FIA issues definitive 2019 F1 entry list

NEWS STORY
06/02/2019

At a time we learn that we will have to get used to calling the Racing Point Force India team of 2018, Racing Point in 2019, despite assurances that the name would be changed in time for the new season, the FIA has also officially confirmed that Sauber is no more and that Alfa Romeo Racing will take its place.

All well and good one might think, but the fact is that the cars, rather than being called Alfas or Alfa Romeos will be called Alfa Romeo Racings, which like Racing Point have to be the most boring unimaginative names since Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

While Racing Point boss Otmar Szafnauer insisted that the name was merely a "placeholder" ahead of a pre-season name change, it is understood that having failed to secure the rights to names like Lola or Brabham it was decided to abandon the idea.

Quite why the Silverstone-based outfit, owned by a consortium led by a Canadian billionaire and racing under a British licence, wanted to be named after a team with which it has no historic connection is unclear, but if it insisted on a former team name why not Wolf or even Jordan.

The final list confirms that Haas will race as the Rich Energy Haas F1 team, a day before the American outfit reveals its new livery.

This follows today's historic moment when Romain Grosjean appeared to find the only can of the mysterious energy drink on the planet.

"Mission Winnow , huh? Changes to society? Yep, Philip Morris International and its ilk certainly changed society. Whether it is positive is open for debate I suppose. I'll be curious to look back in 20 years' time and see the impact MW has had."
