Carey admits issues with F1's streaming service

NEWS STORY
09/08/2018

Check out social media most race weekends, and while some fans are delighted with Formula One's 'bells and whistles' OTT streaming service, others feel it still leaves a lot to be desired.

While it appears the developers are gradually getting there, fans are frustrated not only by the unreliability of both F1 TV and F1TV Pro, but the fact they are paying for a product that still clearly needs a lot more development.

"Probably not unexpectedly we have had some of the issues a lot of people do from building a tech stack, in that whether that led to the product not launching conditionally where we targeted and some bumps we have to work out a bit," admitted F1 boss Chase Carey in a conference call yesterday.

"I think probably we certainly expected and recognised that was part of the reality of this year which is much more about getting the product to where we want to," he added.

"This year's priority is getting the product to where we want it at this point in time to really give it a proper commercial launch next season.

"I think we have probably worked through most of the significant technological bugs but not all," he admitted.

"It's more important to get it right than to do it fast," he insisted, "so I think for us this year is about getting the product to the place we want it to be at this stage of its life and then give it a proper commercial launch next year."

And to think you mocked Ronspeak.

"@Editor Balfe - Dang, was it that obvious...!?

It's a clear example of marketing hype ("We can do this how hard can it be?") slamming into Miss Physics (in this case information theory and data rate issues) and coming a very, very distant second.

...did see that coming..."

"That is by far the most worrisome statement yet from Liberty. The double speak is mind boggling and it's a total insult to every F1 fan that is paying real money for a service that he clearly states is not performing up to it's stated terms.

Carey is freely admitting that F1 TV Pro subscribers are PAYING to be beta testers. That is appalling. I showed Carey's statement to a lawyer and he said that Carey's statement would make a class action lawsuit a slam dunk.

I've had numerous email contact with the F1TV Pro support team. They have been very responsive and polite and they have acknowledged ALL of the problems: Audio out of sync with video, glitches and temporary black outs, etc. I received two 1/2 month refunds in the first 3 months but now they just apologize without any hint of when it will be fixed.

If Carey had ANY integrity, he would offer every current subscriber a refund for this year and a free subscription for next year (when, according to him the service will be fully functional).

Between Bratches' pathetic statements about the Miami and this insulting garbage from Carey, my hopes for the future of F1 are now lower than ever."

"@ Max Noble

I'm possibly wrong, but can't help feeling that I detect a slight hint of sarcasm in your post."

"Thank goodness they didn’t get it to an unsuitable point at an unplanned time with unforeseen aspects being suboptimally configured in non-fan-oriented paradigms .... that could have had unrecovable unanticipated inverse positive growth characteristics associated in a potentially concerning manner...

Ron’s not on contract as a ghost writer for Chase is he...?"
