Sirotkin's Fight to Prove He Belongs in Formula One

New recruits to the modern day Formula One definitely don't have an easy ride. And starting off in a car that is the lagging behind all the others and with a team that has gone through multiple changes in personnel makes it even more difficult.

Within this set of circumstances, it should come as no surprise that Sergey Sirotkin has not yet managed to score any points. But he's not overly concerned. He is confident in his ability, and is more than ready for the fight!

He's Been Overcoming Obstacles for a While

Sirotkin has been navigating challenges from before he got the Williams drive, and Robert Kubica was his most formidable opponent.

As punters passionate about the Formula One online betting NZ offers will know, the Russian was not even in the running until just before the test which took place after the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. But when he got his chance, he took it, and impressed the team. After a comprehensive analysis of Sirotkin's data versus Kubica's, it was decided that the former was the best choice to partner Lance Stroll.

A Nightmarish 2018

The 2018 campaign has been a torment for Williams, and they've actually ended up going backwards. In fact, they are so far back now that they are propping up the same Constructors' Championship which they've won nine times previously!

Paddy Lowe has set a recovery programme into motion to cure the problems which impacted Williams in the opening seven races, but he and the rest of the team acknowledge that it's going to take time for any changes to make an impression on the track.

Not an Ideal Situation for Sirotkin

Of course this is far from the kind of circumstances Sirotkin would choose if he had any say. While he is determined to prove that he warrants his place in F1, this is challenging, to say the least, when you've got a car that is so sorely lacking.

The 22-year old driver acknowledged that it's been problematic. He stated that the results aren't what the team wants, and the pace is far from where they expected it to be and he dislikes being the underdog. He acknowledged that it would be much easier to show up and drive a car which was easy to operate, and simply rack up the points like that. But he tempered this statement by saying that he's actually rather enjoying the challenge!

He said that there's a real team spirit as everyone unites to try to better the situation, and he feels like he has a role within that. He then stated that, once things had been worked out and the results started coming in, they would be all the sweeter thanks to the hard work that preceded them.

Does Sirotkin feel that he's doing enough to justify his spot? He has replied yes, before adding that he wasn't 100% comfortable saying things like that, and preferred this kind of sentiment to come from someone else, rather than have it asserted by himself.

And, while it's still very early on in his burgeoning career, it is this kind of attitude that has got him this far, and may well take him a lot further.
