Pierre Gasly stunned his rivals after a late flying lap that bulleted the Frenchman to the top of the timesheets.

He crossed the line to complete a 1:31:272, two-tenths clear of nearest competitor Mitch Evans, who has since been excluded from qualifying.
The Kiwi's tyre pressure was found to have fallen below the minimum required and will thus start from the back of the grid.

Stoffel Vandoorne is therefore promoted to the front row and Alex Lynn and Sergey Sirotkin line up behind.

Rio Haryanto lapped the famous Monza circuit to qualify fifth, ahead of Arthur Pic and Richie Stanaway.

Sergio Canamasas has also been disqualified from qualifying for the same reason as Evans but is permitted to start tomorrow's race.

Alex Rossi will start in eighth place, whilst Raffaele Marciello and Nobuharu Matsushita complete the top ten.

Marlon Stockinger and rookie Meindert van Burren have both been penalised for blocking Arden pilot, Rene Binder earning three-place grid penalties. The latter though, will start from the pit lane whilst Stockinger will start from P24.
