Pirelli aims to 'clear' the air' with Ferrari at Monza

NEWS STORY

His penultimate lap tyre failure, which was to end Sebastian Vettel's hopes of a podium finish and result in Ferrari 'celebrating' its 900th F1 Grand Prix with the paltry six points Kimi Raikkonen snatched, resulted in an uncharacteristically scathing attack from the German, who placed all the blame on Pirelli.

The Italian tyre manufacturer was quick to hit back, first blaming Ferrari for its race strategy and then revealing that it has been calling on the sport's powers that be to limit teams to the number of laps they can run on their tyres.

With other drivers wading in to the debate, including Nico Rosberg, who suffered his own spectacular failure on Friday, the paddock is expecting further 'heated discussion' when the 'circus' pitches tents at Monza next week.

However, keen to open a sensible dialogue, yet not appear to lose face, Paul Hembery hopes to 'clear the air' with Ferrari next week.

"Our aim is to always have a good cooperation with Ferrari. So we'll sit down at a table and find the solution," he told Bild.

However, the Briton is sticking to his guns, suggesting that the technical boffins continue to push the envelope at the expense of his company’s reputation.

"We're always the stupid ones," he said. "The engineers push the cars to narrower limits, at the expense of the tyres. We must now consider whether to impose a limit on the number of laps for each compound."

""We must now consider whether to impose a limit on the number of laps for each compound..."
What a crock of sh@t! That would introduce yet another stupid rule into the already overflowing mix of stupid rules.
What they need to do is build tyres to a spec greater than what is asked for. Simple.
Then the drivers and teams won't be in any doubt."
