No action following de Villota crash

No further action is to be taken in respect of the 2012 accident which left Maria de Villota seriously injured.

The 2012 accident saw the Spanish test driver lose an eye after hitting the tailgate of a stationary service vehicle during a test at Duxford Aerodrome in July 2012.

The freak accident necessitated two further operations at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and plastic surgery in Madrid.

Sadly, the 33-year-old was found dead in a Seville hotel just a year later. Though she died of natural causes, it is widely felt her death was linked to the injuries sustained in the crash.

A subsequent investigation by Manor Grand Prix Racing; "excluded the car as a factor in the accident", and now the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has deemed that the team faces no further action.

"The investigation is now complete and no enforcement action is being taken," said an HSE spokesman "Both the company (Manor Grand Prix Racing) and de Villota's family have been informed."

The spokesman added that "all reasonable lines of enquiry" have been investigated.

"But now her family are allegedly going to "claim compensation" concerning her crash???!!! She drove into the back of the truck. Surely Marussia / Manor should claim compensation from her family for the damage to the Formula 1 car and the truck?"
