FIA confirms DRS zone for Singapore

NEWS STORY
20/09/2012

The FIA has confirmed that as in 2011, there will be a single DRS zone at Marina Bay for the Singapore Grand prix, and remains unchanged from 2011. The detection point is at Turn 4 and the activation point is after Turn 5.

Changes to the circuit ahead of this year's race include the track having been resurfaced on the approach to, and at the apex of, Turn 13.

Elsewhere, the outer pit lane has been resurfaced and all rubber kerbs have been replaced by fabricated steel sections anchored securely to the ground with 24mm diameter bolts.

The stewards this weekend include former F1 driver and two-time Le Mans winner Allan McNish. The Scot, who began his career in single seaters, racing in Formula Vauxhall, British F3, and International F3000 before landing a seat with Toyota team for its debut F1 season in 2002.

He contested 16 of the 17 races that year, before a huge accident at Suzuka's 130R in qualifying sidelined him at the final round in Japan. At the end of 2002 he parted company with Toyota and became a test driver for Renault. He then returned to sportscars where he has built up a hugely successful career with two Le Mans wins, four Sebring 12-Hour victories and three ALMS titles to his credit. This year he is racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. He is currently second in the standings.

McNish is joined by FIA Vice President, Jose Abed, founder of the Mexican Organisation of International Motor Sport (OMDAI), and Garry Connelly, Deputy President, FIA Institute, Australian Institute of Motor sport Safety, F1 and WTCC Steward and World Motor Sport Council member.
