Horner and Newey to run half marathon for charity

NEWS STORY
10/02/2012

The Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and chief technical officer Adrian Newey are to take part in the Silverstone Half Marathon to raise money for Wings for Life.

Running as key members of a Red Bull Racing Management Team, Horner and Newey will be joined by other company employees and a team of Formula One fans who will have the chance to train with James de Montfort, Red Bull Racing's Head Fitness Trainer. They will also receive a tour of the Team's Factory in Milton Keynes. The dedicated runners will be put through their paces at this sell-out event, each hoping to make it round three laps of the track.

"Red Bull Racing is proud to be supporting Wings for Life at the Silverstone Half Marathon," said Horner. "They are an inspiring charity, which does great work for spinal cord research. I'm not sure I'm going to be setting any new lap records, but I'm looking forward to the event."

"The Silverstone Half Marathon is a brilliant event for Wings for Life to kick-start the beginning of a very exciting year of fundraising," added Nikki Wilson, Head of Wings for Life UK. "We're extremely grateful for all of the support given by our entrants and Red Bull Racing, which will be integral to another year of fundraising towards spinal cord research."

Wings for Life is Red Bull Racing's official charity, with logos featured on both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber's team kit and Formula One cars. Vettel, Webber and former Formula One driver David Coulthard are all ambassadors of the charity. Wings for Life was established in 2004 and is committed to finding a cure for spinal cord injury. The charity organises a range of fundraising events for supporters in the UK and Silverstone Half Marathon will kick off their 2012 fundraising calendar.

People can support the Red Bull Racing runners by going to the team fundraising page bmycharity.com. They can also text "WINGS" to 70800 to donate £3 to Wings for Life.
