Robert Kubica has undergone another nine hours of surgery today at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure.

The Pole, who earlier this morning told the Gazzetta dello Sport of his determination to return to the F1 grid as soon as possible, subsequently underwent nine hours of surgery to his foot, shoulder, humerous, and anterior elbow. It's understood that a team of 15 doctors and nurses were involved.

"We finished the second surgical intervention on his upper arm," orthopaedic surgeon Dr Francesco Lanza subsequently told reporters, "which was already compromised in a previous accident. We gave him a bone graft and inserted a plate. We operated on the inner part of the upper arm but we still have to operate on the outer part."

Dr. Rosello also provided an update on the condition of Robert’s hand, saying: "Robert’s hand is in optimal condition and has not suffered any further trauma after such complex surgery. His hand remains well vascularised and warm."

Meanwhile, Lotus Renault GP has confirmed that Nick Heidfeld, who is expected to stand in fgor the Pole at the start of the season, will test the R31 tomorrow (Saturday), while Bruno Senna will drive the car on Sunday.
