Race stewards at Suzuka have rejected a protest from the Williams team which could have seen Lewis Hamilton penalised.

The protest followed an incident in the third phase of today's qualifying session when Nico Hulkenberg claimed his final flying lap was ruined by Hamilton who was on the verge of beginning his own final flying lap.

However, on investigating Williams' complaint the stewards found no evidence that Hamilton had breached the rules and therefore rejected the protest.

Hamilton, who was third fastest today, had already been handed a five-place penalty after his team opted to change the gearbox on his car.
