Mosley stokes the fire

NEWS STORY

As F1 holds its breath ahead of next Friday's official conformation of the 2010 entry list, Max Mosley has broken cover, taking a swipe at the nine FOTA teams that have submitted their entries, albeit conditionally.

As the teams reaffirm their desire to continue in F1, albeit with a greater say in the governance of the sport, particularly with regards rule-making, Mosley has made it clear that they are welcome to head off to start their own series.

"What I would say to them: If you want to formulate your own rules, then you can organise your own championship, providing it meets the safety requirements," he told Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell. "But we have the Formula 1 championship. We draw up the rules for that, have been doing that for 60 years and we will continue doing so."

Meanwhile, as first reported by Pitpass in April, Franz Hilmer, of Formtech GmbH, who bought the assets of Super Aguri last year, has confirmed that he is hoping to secure a place on the 2010 grid, albeit with cars bearing the legendary Brabham name, a team once owned by Bernie Ecclestone.

"The Brabham Grand Prix team has pleasure in announcing its application as a cost-cap Formula 1 team for the FIA 2010 Formula 1 world championship," announced the team in a statement. "We appreciate the FIA rules for cost-capped F1 teams and are convinced the budget limitation is a contemporary obligation and will effect a revitalisation of the Formula 1 world championship. We would be happy to enter into Formula 1 as a cost-cap team and to meet the challenge under the new rules."

While full details of the 2010 entry list will not be known officially until next Friday (June 12) it is thought that news of some of the successful, and unsuccessful, bids will be carefully leaked over the Turkish GP weekend.

Mosley's comments regarding FOTA are clearly part of an attempt to further fan the flames.
