More good reasons to attend the British GP?

NEWS STORY

Despite claims that Lewis Hamilton has "saved the British Grand Prix" having previously saved the Indianapolis race, it appears that tickets for the forthcoming Silverstone event are still available.

In recent weeks we have been told that the event will be a sell-out, thanks to the youngster's astonishing start to the season (agreed!) and that fans should move quickly and snap up the remaining tickets if they wish to see history being made.

Today, in the latest press release from the organizers of the event, we are advised that tickets are still available.

Just in case one is not fully persuaded and is still humming and arghing as to whether to go, the organizers have kindly listed a number of attractions - other than being a part of history as Lewis wins the race - that might persuade fans to make the pilgrimage to the Northamptonshire track.

There is the presence of model and former Hollyoaks star, Gemma Atkinson, who has been named the Female Face of the Santander British Grand Prix, and who will be attending her first ever F1 race. "I'm a huge F1 fan," she assures us, "so the opportunity to be part of the British Grand Prix is fantastic for me.

"I've never been before," she admits, "but I've heard that the atmosphere is amazing. "To experience the sheer noise and power of the cars will be unbelievable."

Then there's successful model and former Big Brother housemate, Danielle Lloyd.

Hopefully, if there's time for a photo opportunity with Lewis there will be no repeat of the behaviour that caused international outrage on the reality TV programme, and which led to broadcaster Channel 4 having to make a series of public apologies after Indian actress Shilpa Shetty was subjected to bullying and racist comments from a number of contestants including Ms Lloyd, whose other claim to fame, in addition to being a former 'squeeze of footballer Teddy Sheringham, was her response on a BBC1 quiz when asked "Who was Winston Churchill - A rapper, US President, The PM or King?"

"Wasn't he the first black president of America?" was the reply. "There's a statue of him near me - that's black."

Eddie Jordan will also attend the Grand Prix - the former team boss headlining with his band 'Eddie & The Robbers' at the Grand Prix Party - as will BBC1's Saturday Kitchen Chef James Martin.

Finally, as if that wasn't enough to convince you, we are told that Lewis Hamilton's grandfather, Davidson Hamilton will be watching his grandson race in Formula One for the very first time when he joins him at Silverstone.

Davidson will be travelling over 4,000 miles to Britain from the Caribbean island of Grenada, we are told, to see Lewis "line up on the start grid at Silverstone, gunning for glory in front of a passionate home crowd".

Coming soon, an interview with Rags, a terrier of indeterminate breed - but with a brown spot over his right eye - who belongs to Lewis' next door neighbours. In between telling us why he gave up chasing cats and turned to biting the postman, the young scamp will give us the inside info on the McLaren star.

Sadly, dogs are not allowed at Silverstone, so Rags will have to watch his hero neighbour on TV as normal.

Note: before you ask, there is no truth in the rumour that Anthony Davidson's grandfather Hamilton Davidson will be attending the Silverstone race.
