Valencia race deal confirmed

NEWS STORY

Following a successful result in the regional elections, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that a Grand Prix will be held in the city of Valencia next year. The agreement was signed in London on Friday morning.

It is understood that the deal, which was signed with the Valmor Sport group, an organisation set up by former Motorcycle Grand Prix rider Jorge Martinez Aspar and Valencia businessman Fernando Roig, will see Valencia host a street race for the next seven years. The race will be known as The European Grand Prix.

Our photo shows (l-r) Fernando Roig, Francisco Camps - the conservative presidential candidate at the heart of the controversy which followed the initial announcement of the deal - Bernie Ecclestone and José Luis Olivas, president of Bancaja.

They all look very pleased with themselves... and why wouldn't they?
